No:348/25, Press release on the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda John Mulimba

On 27 August 2025, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, John Mulimba.
During the meeting, political, economic, trade, energy security, humanitarian and other aspects of Azerbaijan–Uganda relations, issues of cooperation within regional and international organizations, including the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Union, as well as regional issues were discussed.
The sides conveyed their mutual congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uganda and noted with satisfaction that there are broad prospects for the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The importance of joint cooperation demonstrated during the implementation of initiatives put forward within the framework of our country’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, including the establishment of the Youth Organization of the Movement, was noted. It was emphasized that relations, which intensified during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, should continue during Uganda’s chairmanship of the Movement.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided the other side with detailed information on our country’s initiatives and plans for the development and expansion of the use of alternative energy sources, and noted that the renewable energy sector is one of the potential areas for the development of cooperation.
It was emphasized that the successful application of Azerbaijan’s “ASAN Service” model in Uganda is an indicator of the usefulness of the exchange of experience between our countries in the field of public service delivery.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side about the outcomes of the Washington meeting held on 8 August 2025 and brought to attention that within the framework of this historic meeting, the text of the “Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia” was initialed, as well as that a joint application was submitted regarding the closure of the OSCE Minsk Group and its related structures, which are remnants of the former conflict.
State Minister John Mulimba conveyed his congratulations on the historic agreements reached regarding the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process within the framework of the Washington meeting and expressed hope for the successful outcome of the process.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
On the same day, political consultations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uganda were held. The political consultations were led by Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev from the Azerbaijani side and by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs John Mulimba from the Ugandan side.
