No:346/25, Press release on the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and the Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom Stephen Doughty

On 25 August 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom, Stephen Doughty.
During the meeting, cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in political, economic, energy security, connectivity, climate change and environment, humanitarian, and education fields, as well as regional and international security issues of mutual interest were discussed.
It was noted that our country has proven itself as a reliable partner in the field of energy security through major projects initiated and primarily implemented by it, and the importance of continuing this positive dynamic of cooperation in traditional energy sources towards the development of alternative energy sources was emphasized. In this regard, the establishment of cooperation in renewable energy between SOCAR and BP companies was highlighted as commendable.
Within the framework of our country’s chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the active participation and contributions of the United Kingdom at the session by the Prime Minister and his delegation were noted with satisfaction.
Within the framework of cooperation in the field of education, the importance of joint initiatives implemented, the establishment of new partnerships between higher education institutions, as well as state programs, and the necessity of continuing work in this field were emphasized.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided the other side with detailed information on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as on the progress of the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization and peace process.
It was emphasized that the initialing of the text of the “Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia” within the framework of the historic Washington meeting held on 8 August 2025, as well as the submission of a joint application regarding the closure of the OSCE Minsk Process and its related structures, are among the significant achievements reached within the peace process.
During the meeting, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
On the same day, the next meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom was held. The Strategic Dialogue was led by Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev from the Azerbaijani side, and by the Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories of the United Kingdom Stephen Doughty from the UK side.
