No:328/25, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan Saja Farooq Abdullah

On 29 July 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Azerbaijan, Saja Farooq Abdullah, on the occasion of the completion of her diplomatic mission in the country.
During the meeting, existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, including UNICEF, was reviewed, and joint initiatives and projects implemented in Azerbaijan as well as in other countries were discussed.
Saja Farooq Abdullah was thanked for her efforts in developing cooperation with UNICEF during her tenure in Azerbaijan, and she was wished success in her future activities.
It was noted that Azerbaijan actively participates in the activities of the United Nations, as well as UNICEF. In particular, the exemplary joint cooperation demonstrated during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was highlighted, and the importance of continuing such cooperation in the future, including during the 13th World Urban Forum to be hosted by Azerbaijan next year, was emphasized.
Along with joint projects implemented in the country in the areas of children’s health, well-being, and education, the importance of cooperation with UNICEF in coordinating projects where Azerbaijan acts as a donor, particularly the initiative to build a secondary school in Palestine, was noted.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided detailed information to the other side on large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts carried out in the post-conflict period in the liberated territories, including rebuilding efforts based on the “smart city” and “smart village” concepts, and elaborated on the measures taken to ensure the dignified return of citizens to their lands.
Saja Farooq Abdullah expressed satisfaction that indicators related to children’s life, health, and well-being in Azerbaijan improved during her tenure, and highlighted the role of effective cooperation with relevant state institutions in this regard.
The UNICEF Representative expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation during her work in Azerbaijan and conveyed her wishes for further development of Azerbaijan–UNICEF relations.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
