On 2 September 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the delegation led by the Deputy President of the Senate of Malaysia, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who is on a visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan to observe the early elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed Azerbaijan–Malaysia bilateral and multilateral relations, the process and results of the early parliamentary elections conducted on 1 September this year, as well as regional issues.

The Minister provided the other side with detailed information on the consistent, systematic, and intensive steps taken to ensure that the parliamentary elections, like the presidential elections conducted earlier this year, were conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, as well as on the measures related to the participation of international observers in the elections.

It was emphasized that holding parliamentary elections, following the presidential elections, for the first time covering the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation is of historical significance. It was noted that the necessary conditions were created to ensure that the elections were organized at a high level in full compliance with the requirements of the legislation and international standards.

During the meeting, the sides reviewed cooperation issues between Azerbaijan and Malaysia, as well as prospects for developing bilateral relations, including joint efforts in the fields of tourism and education. As a continuation of the political consultations held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Kuala Lumpur in July last year, it was noted that the next round of consultations will be convened in Baku in the near future. The successful experience of cooperation between the two countries within various regional and international organizations, including the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, was highlighted.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
