No:306/24, Press release on the meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan, Bik Lum

On 31 July 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan, Bik Lum.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on issues arising from cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as on the current situation in the region.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance of joint projects implemented with UNHCR aimed at addressing the humanitarian consequences of the former Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and improving the living conditions of our citizens who became refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan.
It was emphasized that the “Great Return” program, aimed at ensuring the dignified return of our citizens to the territories liberated from occupation, is one of the main priorities of our country, and the other side was informed about the work carried out in this field.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side about preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and opportunities for cooperation within this framework were reviewed.
The UN representative noted that numerous projects have been implemented over the past 30 years for Azerbaijani internally displaced persons and expressed readiness to support ensuring their return to their homelands, as well as to provide assistance in awareness-raising activities in the field of humanitarian demining in cooperation with ANAMA.
During the meeting, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
