No:245/24, Press release on the second meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Hungary

On 5 June 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, within the framework of his visit to our country.

 

Following the tête-à-tête meeting between the ministers, the second meeting of the Strategic Dialogue was held with the participation of the delegations of both sides.

 

During the second meeting of the Strategic Dialogue, prospects for the development of strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary, issues of cooperation within regional and international organizations, future plans and projects, as well as the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov brought to attention that the existing political dialogue between the two countries, mutual visits and contacts, parliamentary diplomacy, as well as mechanisms such as the Strategic Dialogue and political consultations contribute to the development of partnership relations.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was held on issues on the multifaceted cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Hungary on a bilateral basis in the fields of economy, trade, investments, energy security, renewable energy resources, humanitarian, education, culture and others. In particular, the existence of potential for further strengthening economic relations and the role of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Governments of Azerbaijan and Hungary in discussing prospects in this direction were emphasized.

 

It was emphasized during the meeting that the development and transmission direction of the renewable energy sector is one of the important components of our strategic partnership relations, and that it is necessary to continue activities aimed at advancing the Black Sea submarine cable/Green Middle Corridor initiative in this direction.

 

It was stated that cooperation and mutual support within regional and international organizations, particularly within the framework of the United Nations, the OSCE, and the Organization of Turkic States, are commendable.

 

During the meeting, discussions were held on the priority directions of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the negotiation and preparatory works, as well as cooperation opportunities.

 

The other side was also provided with detailed information on the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the reconstruction works carried out in the territories liberated from occupation, demining activities, and the current state of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

 

The contribution of Hungary to the ongoing reconstruction works, its support for regional peace efforts, as well as its position against steps that do not contribute to the process were noted with gratitude.

 

Subsequently, the ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Consular Affairs between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, as well as the protocol of the second meeting of the Azerbaijan–Hungary Strategic Dialogue.

 

Following the second meeting of the Strategic Dialogue, during the press conference held, the ministers delivered statements on the results of the meeting and answered questions from media representatives.f
