No:244/24, Press release on the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan from Syria

On 4 June 2024, as a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the repatriation to our country of 6 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including 5 children and 1 woman, who were held in camps located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, was carried out.

 

First, the location, identity and citizenship affiliation of the repatriates to the Republic of Azerbaijan were determined, and subsequently their transfer to the territory of the Republic of Türkiye was ensured.

 

Representatives of the relevant state bodies responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were dispatched to the Republic of Türkiye, and the provision of initial medical and psychological examination of the repatriates was ensured. Through the relevant coordination work carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Türkiye, our citizens were provided with airline tickets and return certificates to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

On 4 June 2024, the repatriation of the mentioned citizens to our country was carried out with the accompaniment of the delegation.

 

It is envisaged that relevant measures will be implemented for the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriates into society.

 

The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take the necessary measures for the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have become victims of armed conflict in the territories of foreign countries.
