No:240/24, Press release on the next meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between Azerbaijan and Latvia

On 30 May 2024, the third meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between Azerbaijan and Latvia was held in the city of Riga.

 

During the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fariz Rzayev, while the Latvian delegation was headed by the Deputy State Secretary – Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Vilumsons.

 

During the meeting, the strategic partnership based on traditional friendship and mutual trust between the two countries and opportunities for its strengthening, including the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the political, economic, transport and humanitarian fields, were discussed.

 

The importance of continuing high-level mutual visits, as well as holding the next meetings of the Strategic Dialogue and the Intergovernmental Commission, was emphasized.

 

Issues of mutual interest on the international agenda, as well as topics of expanding cooperation in multilateral formats, were also at the center of discussions.

 

The other side was informed about the preparations and upcoming work related to the session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to be hosted in Azerbaijan in November 2024.

 

During the meeting, the regional situation was also discussed. The other side was informed about the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards the establishment of sustainable peace in the region. An exchange of views was also conducted on the landmine issue in our territories liberated from occupation, the reconstruction works carried out there, as well as cooperation opportunities with Latvia in this regard.

 

During the visit, F. Rzayev also met with other officials of Latvia, and delivered a speech at an event organized with representatives of think tanks.
