On 21 May 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Azerbaijan, Luca Di Gianfrancesco.
During the meeting, the Ambassador presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated Ambassador Luca Di Gianfrancesco on his appointment and wished him success in his activities.
During the meeting, issues arising from the multidimensional strategic partnership relations between the two countries, as well as the current regional situation, were discussed.
The sides brought to attention that intensive contacts between the heads of state, government representatives and parliaments play an important role in the development of strategic relations.
The importance of using strategic dialogue, as well as political consultations mechanisms, was emphasized in terms of discussing the prospects of multifaceted cooperation in various fields, including economy, trade, energy security, connectivity, humanitarian, education and others. In particular, the role of the Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy was noted. It was brought to attention that the Italy–Azerbaijan University will give an additional impetus to the expanding cooperation in the field of education.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The contribution of Italian companies to reconstruction efforts was noted with satisfaction. The issue of the mine threat in Azerbaijan was highlighted, and cooperation opportunities in the field of demining activities were assessed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking about the preparatory works for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the ongoing negotiation process, stated that within the framework of our COP29 chairmanship, we would welcome cooperation with Italy.
Ambassador Luca Di Gianfrancesco expressed gratitude for the reception and noted that he is pleased to be appointed as Ambassador to Azerbaijan and will work towards the development of the existing multidimensional strategic partnership relations during his tenure.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
