On 2 May 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Secretary-General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Siti Rozaimeriyanti, who is on a visit to our country to participate in the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and AIPA, issues arising from the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the current regional situation in the post-conflict period were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan’s existing relations with many ASEAN countries have, in turn, contributed to cooperation within the framework of AIPA, as well as to our country’s acceptance as an observer member of AIPA, and emphasized the importance of continuing mutual support and solidarity within multilateral platforms.

It was highlighted that Azerbaijan attaches importance to inter-parliamentary cooperation and dialogue formats, and is interested in continuing contacts with AIPA in this direction.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the counterpart with detailed information on our country’s preparations for COP29.

He also elaborated on the current situation and realities in the region following the 44-day Patriotic War, the reconstruction and restoration works carried out in the liberated territories, efforts to combat the mine threat, as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

It was noted that Azerbaijan was the first side to come forward with a peace initiative after the former conflict, and the side making the greatest efforts to advance the process.

Secretary-General Siti Rozaimeriyanti, who is visiting our country for the first time within the framework of the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, spoke about the importance of such initiatives and emphasized, in particular, the need to further expand inter-parliamentary relations.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
