On 1 May 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with Permanent Representatives of UNESCO Member States, as well as the heads of the National Commissions for UNESCO of Türkiye, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Malta, who were visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
During the meeting, issues arising from cooperation within UNESCO, preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the current regional situation were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that international projects implemented within the framework of the “Baku Process,” initiated by Azerbaijan, including the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, demonstrate Azerbaijan’s commitment and contribution to fostering cooperation among diverse cultures. It was emphasized that the implementation of these initiatives in cooperation with international partners, including UNESCO, as well as the active participation demonstrated, is commendable.
Providing detailed information on the efforts undertaken within Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency to mobilize international efforts in combating global climate change, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted the importance of awareness-raising activities on climate issues and joint cooperation in this regard.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also spoke about normalization, peacebuilding, and reconstruction efforts in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as initiatives aimed at restoring cultural heritage damaged during the former occupation.
The Minister further briefed participants on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities and its views on a number of regional issues.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest, and participants’ questions were answered.
