No:181/26, Press release on the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan from Syria

As a result of the phased and coordinated measures implemented by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Rules for the repatriation and rehabilitation of minors who are citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan in difficult life situations in a foreign country," approved by Decree No. 2336 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 28, 2023, a total of 5 (five) citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan—comprising 2 (two) women and 3 (three) children—were repatriated from the conflict zone in the Syrian Arab Republic to our country, via the Republic of Türkiye, on April 21, 2026.

First of all, the location, identity and citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the repatriates were determined, and then their transfer to the territory of the Republic of Türkiye was organized.

Representatives of the relevant state bodies responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were dispatched to the city of Istanbul of the Republic of Türkiye, and the initial medical and psychological examination of the repatriates was ensured.

Through the relevant coordination carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Türkiye and the Consulate General in Istanbul, our citizens were provided with certificates of return to the Republic of Azerbaijan and flight tickets.

On 21 April 2026, the repatriation of the mentioned citizens to our country was carried out accompanied by the delegation.

It is envisaged to implement relevant measures for the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriates into society.

The necessary measures for the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have become victims of armed conflicts in the territories of foreign countries will be continued.
