No:180/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala

On 23 April 2024, within the framework of his official visit to the Czech Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala.

During the meeting, issues arising from the existing strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period, were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that last year marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, and stated that the high-level political dialogue, as well as intensive mutual visits and contacts developed over these years, have contributed to joint activities both bilaterally and within multilateral platforms.

It was noted with satisfaction that the strategic partnership between the two countries in political, economic, trade, investment, energy security, transport and communications, humanitarian, and other fields is developing, while emphasizing the necessity of utilizing existing potential and opportunities to further expand relations.

During the meeting, detailed information was also provided on Azerbaijan’s COP29 chairmanship, and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries within the framework of COP29 were discussed. Azerbaijan’s priorities in the field of alternative energy and its cooperation plans with European countries were highlighted, and the potential for cooperation with the Czech Republic was noted.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side in detail about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the reconstruction, rebuilding, and demining efforts carried out in the liberated territories, as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The significant potential and interest of Czech companies in participating in reconstruction and rebuilding projects were emphasized.

It was stated that there is a historic opportunity to establish peace and stability in the region, and that Azerbaijan continues to make consistent efforts to utilize these opportunities. In this context, it was noted that the return of four of our villages previously under Armenian occupation, based on the agreement reached within the delimitation commission, is an important step.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
