No:170/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala

On 16 April 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–European Union relations, Azerbaijan’s role in Central Asia–European Union relations, as well as cooperation within international platforms and formats.

Energy security, communications, and transport, as well as agreements reached with the EU in these areas and relations with Central Asia within this framework, constituted the main topics of discussion.

The importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the field of energy between Azerbaijan and the European Union, which envisages joint activities in energy security as well as the development of alternative energy resources, was emphasized.

The other side was also informed about the work carried out by our country both at the Baku Port and in the field of development of transport and communications.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
