No:156/24, Press release on the next round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic

On 8 April 2024, the next round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic was held in Rome.
The delegations at the political consultations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev, and on the other side by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Edmondo Cirielli.
During the consultations, the sides discussed the multidimensional strategic partnership based on traditional friendship and mutual trust between the two countries and its strengthening, including opportunities to expand cooperation in political, trade-economic, energy, defense and security, transport, logistics, and humanitarian fields.
The importance of continuing high-level mutual visits, as well as holding the next meetings of the Strategic Dialogue and the Intergovernmental Commission, was emphasized in order to further deepen the partnership.
Issues of mutual interest on the international and regional agenda, as well as the expansion of cooperation in multilateral formats, were also at the center of discussions.
The other side was informed about the preparations and ongoing work related to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to be held in Azerbaijan in November 2024.
The other side was also briefed on the regional situation and the steps taken by Azerbaijan to ensure sustainable peace in the region. In addition, views were exchanged on the mine problem in the territories liberated from occupation, reconstruction and rebuilding works carried out there, and cooperation with Italy in this regard.
The sides noted the importance of exchanges carried out between the two countries in the fields of culture, science, and education, particularly within the framework of the Italy-Azerbaijan University in Baku, as well as potential cooperation opportunities in the field of international development assistance, in diversifying the partnership.
During the visit, F. Rzayev also held meetings with other Italian officials and delivered speeches at events organized by leading think tanks.
