No:155/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic

On 9 April 2024, within the framework of his official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan (Jogorku Kenesh), Nurlanbek Shakiyev.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on strategic cooperation relations between the two countries across various fields, future prospects of cooperation, as well as inter-parliamentary relations.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted with satisfaction that the historical friendship and brotherhood ties between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan have been further strengthened as a result of mutual trust and political dialogue between the leaders of the two countries, and have been formalized by the “Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kyrgyz Republic.” It was emphasized that mutual visits and contacts contribute to the development of existing strategic partnership relations, as well as to the expansion of the contractual and legal framework.

During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov particularly highlighted the importance of mutual support for each other’s positions at the inter-parliamentary level and emphasized that there are broad prospects for further development of inter-parliamentary relations.

At the same time, the importance of developing relations within the framework of regional and international organizations was underlined. In particular, it was emphasized that there are wide prospects for cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), as well as the necessity of intensive contacts among the member states of the OTS in order to make use of the existing potential. In this regard, confidence was expressed that the extraordinary summit of the OTS to be held in the city of Shusha in July this year and the official summit to be convened in Bishkek in October will serve the development of the Organization.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed his counterpart about the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

For his part, the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Shakiyev, noted that his country attaches importance to brotherly relations with Azerbaijan based on deep historical ties and highlighted the existence of prospects for improving cooperation in the aforementioned areas. Recalling with satisfaction his visit to Azerbaijan last year to participate in events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Speaker emphasized that cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries is steadily deepening.

During the meeting, other issues of mutual interest at bilateral and multilateral levels were also discussed.
