No:141/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Minister of State for International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda Oryem Henry Okello

On 3 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the delegation led by the Minister of State for International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Oryem Henry Okello.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Uganda were discussed in detail. Satisfaction was expressed with the rapid development of relations over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with Uganda, as well as with African countries in general, and brought to attention the importance of effectively utilizing the existing potential for expanding cooperation with Uganda. Within this framework, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, energy, tourism and education were reviewed. The opening of Public Service Centers operating in Uganda based on the “ASAN service” model was welcomed.
The sides noted the importance of promoting investment opportunities, expanding relations between business circles, and implementing joint projects.
During the meeting, particular attention was paid to issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations. Within this framework, it was emphasized that interaction within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, including cooperation within the framework of the chairmanship institution of the Movement and the “troika” mechanism, is beneficial, and the importance of continuing mutual support within multilateral platforms was underlined.
It was noted with satisfaction that Ugandan students benefit from educational opportunities at higher education institutions of Azerbaijan within the framework of international scholarship programs implemented by Azerbaijan, including the program intended for Member States of the Non-Aligned Movement.
An exchange of views was held on regional and international security issues, as well as global challenges.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side about the former conflict, the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, restoration and reconstruction works, as well as the steps taken towards advancing the peace agenda.
During the meeting, the sides reviewed other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
On the same day, political consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Uganda. The political consultations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev, and by the Minister of State for International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, Oryem Henry Okello, from the Ugandan side.
