No:122/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis

On 15 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis, who is on a visit to our country to participate in the XI Global Baku Forum.
During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov brought to attention that our country, as a responsible member of the international community, actively participates in cooperation within the framework of the United Nations, including in the promotion of multilateralism, and particularly demonstrated activity in developing relations between the United Nations and the said Movement during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, and that a number of important joint global initiatives were implemented during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the meeting, reference was also made to the initiatives put forward and successfully implemented by Azerbaijan in a number of areas, including energy security, transition to alternative energy, and the development of regional transport and communications.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, noting that our country will host COP29 this year, provided detailed information to the counterpart on the ongoing negotiation process, as well as the preparations. It was brought to attention that our country is in active contact with previous COP presidencies within the framework of the Presidency Troika in order to support the continuity of the process.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, the restoration and reconstruction activities carried out in the territories liberated from occupation, the mine threat posing danger to the ongoing works, as well as initiatives aimed at advancing the normalization process and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
It was brought to attention that Azerbaijan is the most active side putting forward a peace initiative and acting towards advancing the normalization process.
Dennis Francis provided detailed information on the initiatives planned to be implemented during his presidency of the United Nations General Assembly, including the “Summit of the Future”. It was noted that Azerbaijan’s achievements in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals are commendable. It was brought to attention that the United Nations General Assembly supports the peace initiatives put forward in the post-conflict period.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
