No:094/24, Press release on the meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein

On 2 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

 

During the meeting, issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as the current regional situation, were discussed.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that intensive mutual contacts and visits between Azerbaijan and Iraq contribute to the successful development of relations in various areas, including political, economic, trade, energy security, investment, cultural, and others.

 

It was stated that relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq, based on historical friendship and solidarity, are reflected in mutual support demonstrated both bilaterally and within regional and international platforms.

 

The other side was informed in detail about the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be hosted by Azerbaijan this year, possible areas of cooperation were discussed, and confidence was expressed that the Iraqi side would actively participate in the process.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed his counterpart about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the reconstruction and construction works carried out in the liberated territories, as well as the current state of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

 

Minister Fuad Hussein noted Iraq’s interest in further developing relations with Azerbaijan and emphasized the necessity of utilizing the existing potential to expand cooperation in this direction.

 

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
