On 1 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

During the meeting, issues on the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between the two countries, as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period, were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted with satisfaction that the multifaceted relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, based on friendship and brotherhood, covering political, economic, trade, transport and communications, cultural, humanitarian and other fields, have been developing in recent years as a result of intensive high-level and top-level contacts.

The importance of continuing cooperation based on mutual support and solidarity within regional and international organizations, particularly within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, which constitutes one of the priority areas for Azerbaijan, was emphasized.

It was noted that Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year, and readiness for cooperation in implementing joint activities in this direction was expressed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart in detail about the large-scale reconstruction and construction works carried out in the region in the post-conflict period, the steps taken towards the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the challenges threatening regional peace and stability. It was noted that the increasingly intensive political and military provocations by Armenia in recent times, as well as its rapid armament and continued aggressive rhetoric, pose a threat to the peace process.

Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting COP29, wished success in the organization of this significant event, and stated that Uzbekistan is ready to contribute to the upcoming event.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest at the bilateral and regional levels.
