On 29 February, the next, 4th round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federative Republic of Brazil was held in the city of Baku.

 

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov, while the Brazilian delegation was led by the Secretary-General (First Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Ms. Maria Laura da Rocha.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Maria Laura da Rocha presented a congratulatory letter addressed to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on the occasion of his re-election as President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on behalf of the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and requested that it be conveyed to the addressee.

 

During the meeting, a broad exchange of views was held on the current state and development prospects of relations between the two countries in the political, economic, energy, transport, tourism, and humanitarian fields, particularly on issues such as education, culture, agriculture, customs administration, and investment promotion, and mutual support was expressed for the creation of a contractual and legal framework in these areas.

 

Cooperation within the framework of international organizations was also discussed. In this regard, an exchange of views was held on the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), to be held in Azerbaijan this year, and it was noted that this significant event would create new opportunities for the development of cooperation both bilaterally and within the framework of the COP Troika. In this context, the other side was provided with detailed information on Azerbaijan’s contribution to environmental protection and the fight against climate change at the national, regional, and global levels.

 

The other side provided information on the objectives ahead of the G20 Summit to be held under Brazil’s presidency in November this year, as well as Brazil’s priorities in this regard.

 

During the meeting, information was provided on the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, and the steps taken in this regard to establish sustainable peace in the region, as well as the mine problem in our liberated territories and the large-scale reconstruction and restoration works carried out.

 

During the political consultations, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
