On March 5, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, held a phone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.
During the telephone conversation, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov strongly condemned the drone attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan and expressed firm protest regarding these attacks.
He emphasized that these attacks against the territory of Azerbaijan violate the norms and principles of international law and contribute to increased tensions in the region.
The Iranian Minister expressed concern over the drone attacks against the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. He stated that the Iranian side and the military have launched an investigation into the incident. The Iranian Minister also wished a speedy recovery to the injured civilians.
It was brought to attention that Azerbaijan expects an apology from the Iranian side regarding the attack, a prompt explanation of the results of the investigation, and the adoption of necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
