No:065/24, Press release on the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan from Syria

As a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on 20 February 2024, the repatriation to Azerbaijan of 7 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including 5 children and 2 women, who were held in camps located in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, was carried out.
First, the location, identity and affiliation to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the repatriates were determined, and then their transfer to the territory of the Republic of Türkiye was organized.
Representatives of the relevant state bodies responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were dispatched to the Republic of Türkiye, and the provision of initial medical and psychological examinations of the repatriates was ensured.
Through the relevant coordination carried out by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Türkiye, our citizens were provided with certificates of return to the Republic of Azerbaijan and were brought to the country.
It is envisaged to implement relevant measures for the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriates into society.
The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take necessary measures for the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have become victims of armed conflicts in the territories of foreign countries.
