No:044/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergey Lebedev

On 6 February 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Sergey Lebedev, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan to observe the extraordinary Presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, current issues on the agenda within the framework of the CIS, prospects for cooperation, as well as issues arising from the observation of the extraordinary Presidential elections were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan continues to successfully develop bilateral cooperation with CIS countries, as well as multilateral cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth, and brought to attention that our membership in the Commonwealth contributes to the further development of relations in the social, cultural and humanitarian fields.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, providing the other side with detailed information on the work carried out in connection with the extraordinary Presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan to be held on 7 February of the current year, emphasized that these elections are notable for being held for the first time in more than 30 years in our territories liberated from occupation. It was brought to attention that all preparatory work related to the organization of the elections has been completed, and that necessary measures have been implemented to ensure that international observers, as well as representatives of foreign media, can observe the elections.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has carried out relevant work to ensure the exercise of electoral rights of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan residing abroad, as well as those on long-term foreign assignments, and that in this regard 49 polling stations have been established in 37 foreign countries.
Secretary General Sergey Lebedev expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the observation of the elections to be held in Azerbaijan and noted that the professional conduct of the preparatory work is commendable.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
