No:041/26, Press release on consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia

On 19 February, the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia were held in Riga, the capital city of the Republic of Latvia.

 

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, while the Latvian delegation was headed by Ms. Agnese Kalniņa, Director General of the Directorate of Consular and Diplomatic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.

 

The Latvian delegation also included representatives of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia, as well as officials from the country’s Office of Migration. A representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan also participated in the meeting.

 

During the consular consultations, the sides reviewed the current state of cooperation in the consular field between Azerbaijan and Latvia, a strategic partner country for Azerbaijan, as well as prospects for its further development, including the opportunities for signing new bilateral documents in the relevant field and for the digitalization of consular services were also considered.

 

In the course of the discussions, the parties exchanged views on prospects for multilateral and bilateral cooperation not only in consular matters, but also in the fields of justice, law enforcement, prosecution, migration, and education, including the expansion of existing contacts.

 

Subsequently, the delegation was received by Kaspars Āboliņš, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Latvia. During the meeting, issues related to the expansion of cooperation between the internal affairs bodies of the two countries and the further development of the relevant contractual and legal framework were discussed.
