No:040/26, Press release on political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia

On 17 February 2026, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia was held in Baku.
The political consultations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Samir Sharifov, and by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia.
During the consultations, satisfaction was expressed with the current high level of strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia. It was emphasized that the cooperation between the two countries is of significant importance for regional security and economic prosperity.
The sides also expressed satisfaction with the dynamic nature of high-level mutual visits and political dialogue between the two countries, and underscored the importance of continuing cooperation within international organizations and multilateral formats.
The meeting further included discussions on the current state and future prospects of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy, transport, transit, humanitarian affairs, and education.
The parties highlighted the important role played in the development of bilateral relations by the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia, co-chaired by the Prime Ministers.
The Georgian side was briefed on the new realities that have emerged in the region in the post-conflict period, Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, as well as the large-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts being carried out in the territories liberated from occupation.
