No:036/26, Press release on the participation of the Azerbaijani delegation in a strategic planning meeting related to preparations for COP31

On 11–12 February, in the city of İstanbul, Türkiye, the first strategic planning meeting in preparation for COP31 was held with the participation of delegations from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Australia, and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chief Negotiator of COP29, Yalchin Rafiev.
In addition, the President’s Special Representative for Climate Affairs and President of COP29, Muxtar Babayev, participated and delivered a speech online during the opening of the event.
The meeting included discussions on Türkiye’s preparations for the substantive and logistical organization of COP31, the cooperation mechanism between Türkiye, as the COP31 Chair, and Australia, responsible for the COP31 negotiation process, as well as an initial discussion on the strategy to ensure the success of COP31.
At the same time, within the framework of the event, an exchange of views took place regarding the plans for the activities of the “Belem 1.5 Mission” Troika (Azerbaijan, Brazil, and Türkiye) for the current year, established pursuant to the decision adopted at COP30.
