On 18 January 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye Hakan Fidan within the framework of the latter’s visit to our country.
The one-on-one meeting between the ministers was later continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from both sides, during which current issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, as well as opportunities and challenges against the backdrop of recent regional developments, were discussed.
During the meetings, satisfaction was expressed with the broad scope, multi-vector nature and rich content of Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations, which have been elevated to the level of alliance with the Shusha Declaration thanks to the leadership and forward-looking vision of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
The positive dynamics of cooperation between our state and government institutions in political, economy and trade, energy, transport and communication, security, military-defense, humanitarian and other areas were noted.
It was stated that, against the backdrop of our bilateral alliance, our countries successfully cooperate within trilateral formats such as Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia, Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Pakistan, Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Uzbekistan, as well as the quadrilateral Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia-Kazakhstan cooperation format.
It was emphasized that the Azerbaijan-Türkiye partnership is a true example of alliance within the framework of international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, OSCE, the Organization of Turkic States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and D-8.
The importance attached by Azerbaijan and Türkiye to the Organization of Turkic States, as well as the cooperation carried out for this purpose, including the advancement of joint initiatives in various fields, the holding of meetings at the highest and high levels, and the adoption of important decisions, were discussed.
The support provided by Türkiye to Azerbaijan in the process of Azerbaijan’s accession as a full member to the Developing-8 (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation was highly appreciated.
At the same time, the extensive and active participation of the brotherly Türkiye at the level of the Head of State in the COP29 international climate conference held in Baku in November 2024 was recalled with gratitude.
It was stated that Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations in terms of economy, trade and investment have covered a great distance and bear an exemplary character.
It was noted that major energy and transport and communication projects such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and the Southern Gas Corridor play a leading role in the economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Arising from such projects, the positive dynamics of our bilateral trade and mutual investments were discussed, and the active participation of Turkish companies in the large-scale reconstruction and restoration works carried out in our liberated territories was recalled with satisfaction.
Consensus was expressed on making greater use of our existing economic partnership and enriching it with new driving elements. An exchange of views was held on joint activities and relevant projects implemented in the fields of transport-logistics, communication, as well as the production, transit and export of clean energy resources.
Touching upon contacts, exchanges and cooperation between our countries in humanitarian fields, including tourism, healthcare, education, science and culture, it was emphasized that the bridges between our peoples, who are bound by the same nation, the same language and the same religion, make our interstate relations unshakable and eternal.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart about the current stage of the negotiations on the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He brought to attention that the persistence of territorial claims against Azerbaijan in Armenia’s constitution, the prevailing atmosphere of revanchism both in the ruling and opposition forces, and the rapid armament of this country undermine the progress of the peace process.
Against the backdrop of recent developments in Syria, the positive role of brotherly Türkiye was noted, and the possibilities for joint participation of our countries in reconstruction activities in Syria were reviewed.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
Subsequently, the ministers delivered statements at a press conference on the outcomes of the meeting and answered questions from media representatives.
