Hasan Aziz oghlu Hasanov, a prominent public, state and political figure, diplomat and scholar of Azerbaijan, was born on October 20, 1940 in Tbilisi. In 1958 he graduated from high school No. 43 in Tbilisi and from the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute in 1963 and received a degree in civil engineering. He later graduated from Baku Supreme Party School and received a degree in political science. H.Hasanov also attended the Higher Course for High-ranking Officials (1969) and the Higher Course for Senior Political Officers (1981) in Moscow.

From 1960 to 1963 he served as Chairman of the Baku Student Council, and in 1962-1966 he worked as a tutor in Baku Komsomol Committee, as well as the Secretary of the Yasamal District Komsomol Committe. In 1966, he was a postgraduate student at the Construction Materials and Establishments Institute; in 1969 he was the responsible organizer of the Central Committee of the Komsomol in Moscow, and since 1971 served as a tutor and head of the department.

From 1975 he served as the First Secretary of the Sabayil District Party Committee, from 1978 as the First Secretary of the Sumgait Party Committee, and from 1979 as the First Secretary of the Ganja Party Committee.

In 1981-1990, he served as the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan.

In 1990-1992 he served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 1990-1991 as a member of the USSR Council of Ministers, in 1992-1993 as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN.

H.Hasanov was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on September 2, 1993 by the order of Heydar Aliyev. In 1993 he became a member of the National Security Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

From 1977 to 2000, he was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan, in 1977-1981, the chairman of the Commission of the Supreme Soviet, in 1979-1984, a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a member of the Construction Commission of the USSR Supreme Soviet. From 1963 to 1980 he was elected as a district and city deputy of the Soviets of People's Deputies.

From 2004 to 2010, by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Hungary, and on March 30, 2010 he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Poland.

He has been awarded with various orders and medals of the USSR.

H.Hasanov speaks Russian, English, Turkish and Georgian.
