Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with the Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov within his official visit to the Russian Federation.
Noting that bilateral relations between two countries are based on historical roots and also expressing his satisfaction on the development of bilateral ties, Minister Mammadyarov pointed that upcoming attendance of the President of Russian Federation, H.E Mr. Vladimir Putin in the Opening Ceremony of the First European Games to be held in June in Baku is highly appreciated.
Elmar Mammadyarov mentioned the importance of cooperation between Governments, Security Councils and legislative bodies of two countries. In this regard, he talked about the role of consultation mechanisms and dialogues between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in enhancing the relations.
Touching upon Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict Minister Elmar Mammadyarov reiterated that the current status-quo is inconsistent and unacceptable and resolution of the conflict is ripe. Meanwhile, Minister Mammadyarov drew attention to the immediate release of two Azerbaijanian civil hostages by the Republic of Armenia.
Sergey Lavrov expressed his condolences to all those who affected by the fire happened in Baku on May 19th. Talking about the development of bilateral relations in the different sphere of cooperation, Sergey Lavrov pointed out that the visit of the President of Azerbaijan, H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev to the event devoted to the Victory day, was highly appreciated.
Meanwhile, discussions on issues of mutual interests, namely, strengthening the treaty-legal base, cooperation on agriculture, humanitarian sphere were held at the meeting. Mutually beneficial cooperation in the framework of international organizations also was also underlined at the meeting.
At the end, Plan on Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation for 2015-2016 term was signed.
A joint press conference was held after the meeting.
