The Republic of Chile

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Chile were established on November 3, 1994. The diplomatic mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Chile was established on November 29, 2013. The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Argentina is also accredited to the Republic of Chile. 

The Embassy of the Republic of Chile in the Republic of Azerbaijan has been operating since December 2018. Since  June 1, 2023, the activities of the Chilean ambassador to Ankara as the Chilean ambassador to Baku have been suspended and Giancarlo Alberti, chargé d'affaires, has been appointed as the head of the diplomatic representation of Chile in Baku.   

Currently, Azerbaijani-Chile relations are developing in political, economic, humanitarian, culture and other areas, both bilaterally and within the framework of international organizations. Inter-parliamentary relations between the parties are developing, and friendship groups are actively operating.

Visits between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Chile took place in 2005 and 2019. On September 13, 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile. In August 2019, the first round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile was held in Santiago.

In recent years, joint contacts, including parliamentary diplomacy, have been carried out between the officials of the two countries. On October 11-12, 2021, in the framework of a high-level event in Belgrade on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement, a meeting was held between Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile Mrs. Gloria Navarete Pinto and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan F. Rzayev.  Jaime Pisarro Herrera, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Chile, participated in the 7th International Conference of  Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sports (MINEPS VII) held in Baku on June 26-29, 2023 .

Financial assistance in the amount of 100,000.0 (one hundred thousand) US dollars was provided in order to support the elimination  of the consequences of the natural disaster that occurred in the Republic of Chile.

Inter-parliamentary relations

The Working Group for the Azerbaijan-Chile Inter-parliamentary Relations was established in October 2012. Due to the early parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on September 1, 2024, the new composition of the group has not yet been formed. 

The Chile-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group was established in both chambers of the Parliament. 

The friendship group in the Senate of the National Congress of Chile was last established on July 18, 2018 for the 2018-2022 legislative term. After the general elections held in Chile in 2021, the full composition of the new friendship group in the Senate has not yet been formed, but Francisco Chahuán remains as chairman. The members are as follows:
