No: 595/23 Press Release on the Telephone Conversation between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom James Cleverly

On 17 October 2023, a telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom James Cleverly.
During the phone call, the prospects for the cooperation agenda between the two countries, as well as the existing regional situation and the current state of the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, were discussed.
Providing detailed information on the existing situation in the region, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that, as a result of the local anti-terror measures carried out by our side in the Karabakh region, an end had been put to the presence of illegal Armenian armed forces, which posed a persistent threat to peacebuilding and stability in the region.
It was noted that, as a result of the disarmament of the illegal armed forces in our territories, the obstacles to the process of reintegration of the Armenian residents into our society had been removed, and that, in this regard, the Government of Azerbaijan is in contact with representatives of the local Armenian residents with a view to meeting their social, humanitarian and infrastructure-related needs, that our views and plans in this regard had been disclosed, and that the relevant measures towards the implementation of these plans are being carried out.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also noted that, following the end of a conflict that had lasted for nearly 30 years, as well as the elimination of the Armenian armed forces, which posed a real threat to peace and security in the region, steps that undermine the historic opportunities created for peace and that are directed against our territorial integrity and sovereignty do not contribute to peace efforts, and that a constructive approach on the part of the international community is more important than ever in this regard.
Secretary of State James Cleverly emphasized the importance of continuing efforts towards peace and confidence-building in the region, and, in this regard, of continuing the negotiations on the peace and normalization agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
During the phone call, an exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
