On 28 September 2023, a telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister of State for Europe of Great Britain Leo Docherty.
During the telephone conversation, the cooperation agenda between the two countries, as well as the current situation in the region, were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information about the current situation in the region after the local anti-terror measures carried out by Azerbaijan in the Garabagh region. It was stated that ending the presence of Armenian armed forces that posed a threat to peace and stability in the region and their disarmament as a result of the anti-terror measures once again demonstrated the terrible level of militarization in the sovereign territories of our country. It was stated that the anti-terror measures carried out also gave impetus to the reintegration of Armenian residents living in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan into our society, and in this regard, as a result of the contacts between the representative of the Government of Azerbaijan and representatives of local Armenian residents, practical steps are being taken by our side to meet the needs of those residents.
It was noted that the claims of the Armenian side regarding the alleged implementation of “ethnic cleansing” in the region do not correspond to reality, and that our country is taking measures towards the reintegration of Armenian residents into our society.
It was once again emphasized that our country is committed both to the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a bilateral basis, as well as to reintegration efforts concerning Armenian residents living in the Garabagh region within the framework of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the international mechanisms to which we are a party.
During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
