No:500/23, Press release on the telephone conversation between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

17 September 2023 14:00

On 17 September, a telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

The Ministers discussed issues on the bilateral and regional agenda, as well as the current regional situation in the post-conflict period.

During the telephone conversation, issues arising from the recent meetings held between the co-chairs of the State Commission on Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in the economic, trade and humanitarian fields, as well as the next steps to be taken, were reviewed.

At the same time, the contribution of high-level meetings between the Prosecutors General of the two countries, as well as in the military field, and inter-institutional contacts held in recent weeks to the development of Azerbaijan-Iran relations was highly appreciated.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian once again recalled with satisfaction his meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, within the framework of his visit to our country for the purpose of participating in the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement held in our country at the beginning of July.

At the same time, the Ministers discussed the measures necessary to be taken for the full normalization of relations between the two countries.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that, despite the peace proposals put forward by Azerbaijan and the initiatives serving the normalization of relations in the region, the military-political provocations continued by the leadership of Armenia against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan deal a blow to these efforts. He emphasized that the congratulation addressed by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to the so-called regime on 2 September is in complete contradiction with his statements on supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, including the Garabagh region. At the same time, the importance of condemning the illegal activity under the name of “elections” of the so-called regime created by Armenia was noted. It was recalled that the greatest threat in the region is more than 10,000 Armenian armed forces, and it was stated that their withdrawal from our territories and disarmament are necessary.

The sides also conducted an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
