On 9 September 2023, another telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Yuri Kim, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States.
During the telephone conversation, the latest situation in the region was discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the increasing provocations by Armenia and the so-called regime created by it in the territories of Azerbaijan against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, as well as the Armenian armed forces that have still not been withdrawn from the territories of Azerbaijan contrary to obligations, are the main threat to peace and security in the region.
It was stated that the illegal activity carried out by the so-called regime in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan on 9 September under the name of “presidential elections” is a gross violation of the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the norms and principles of international law, and that this step deals a serious blow to efforts towards normalization in the region and the reintegration of Armenian residents into the constitutional framework of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Minister emphasized that the unconditional and complete withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan and the dissolution of the so-called regime are necessary.
The Minister called for strongly condemning this illegal activity carried out under the name of “elections” on the territory of Azerbaijan, in accordance with obligations arising from international law.
During the telephone conversation, the sides conducted an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
