No:470/23, Press release on the telephone conversation between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Yuri Kim, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States

07 September 2023 20:31

On 7 September 2023, a telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Yuri Kim, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States.

During the telephone conversation, the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between the two countries, the current situation in the region, as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, informing the other side in detail about the current situation in the region, emphasized that, against the background of the increase in Armenia’s military-political provocations against Azerbaijan and its manipulations distorting the situation, the propaganda of this country aimed at misleading the international community does not reflect the realities.

It was emphasized that interference in the internal affairs of our country, including in the efforts for the reintegration of Armenian residents living in the Garabagh region into our society, under the pretext of groundless allegations regarding the alleged existence of a “difficult humanitarian situation” and “blockade” in the region, is unacceptable.

It was stated that the violation at the last moment by Armenia and the so-called regime created by it of the agreements reached on the transportation of cargo to Armenian residents by Azerbaijan through the International Committee of the Red Cross using the Aghdam-Khankendi road, and, in parallel, the intensification of the use of the Lachin road, shows that the situation that has arisen is not humanitarian, but political manipulation.

It was emphasized that, in order not to miss the historic chance that has emerged in the post-conflict period towards the establishment of peace and security in the region, it is necessary for the international community to strongly condemn and denounce Armenia’s provocative steps, including its statements supporting the so-called regime created in the territories of Azerbaijan.

It was emphasized that, despite the statements and steps of the Armenian side that put the peace process under threat, we are determined to advance the normalization agenda, but our commitment to this position does not undermine our right to prevent any threat directed against our territorial integrity and sovereignty.

During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
