No:429/23, Press release on the telephone conversation between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Yuri Kim, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States

09 August 2023 22:00

On 9 August 2023, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a telephone conversation with Yuri Kim, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States.

During the telephone conversation, the bilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the United States, issues arising from the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the situation in the region were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Armenia deliberately escalates the situation in the region and obstructs the peace process under various pretexts, as well as by disseminating allegations such as “blockade” and “humanitarian crisis” in the region. At the same time, he emphasized that its continued claims against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, its refusal to fully withdraw Armenian armed forces from the territories of Azerbaijan, and its interference in the internal affairs of our country are unacceptable.

He recalled that Armenia continues its provocations against the Lachin border checkpoint established by Azerbaijan on its sovereign territories, and that, despite this, our country has created conditions for the passage of Armenian residents in both directions.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that, despite the proposal by Azerbaijan of the Aghdam-Khankendi and other alternative roads for the transportation of cargo, the Armenian side’s creation of obstacles on the roads for the transportation of cargo and its opposition to the transportation of cargo through these roads once again proved that the allegations regarding “blockade” and the “humanitarian situation” are political manipulation.

During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
