On 27 July, a telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The Ministers conducted an exchange of views on issues on the bilateral and regional agenda, as well as the situation in the region in the post-conflict period.
Issues arising from the recent meeting held between the co-chairs of the State Commission on Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in the economic, trade and humanitarian fields were discussed, and in general, the contribution of high-level meetings and inter-institutional contacts held in recent months to the development of relations was highly appreciated.
In particular, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian recalled with satisfaction his meeting with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, within the framework of his visit to our country for the purpose of participating in the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement held in our country at the beginning of July.
During the telephone conversation, it was stated that the implementation of bilateral and regional agreements reached in the fields of economy and transport is important.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the steps taken by Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period. At the same time, it was emphasized that the allegations recently disseminated regarding the Lachin road and the humanitarian situation in the region are nothing other than political manipulation. It was emphasized that it is necessary for the Armenian side to put an end to provocations in the region and to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan in word and deed.
Touching upon the issue of Islamic solidarity, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also emphasized that the inappropriate acts recently committed against the Holy Quran in some Scandinavian countries are strongly condemned by Azerbaijan, and that it is important to refrain from such steps targeting the Islamic religion.
It was stated that it is important to resolve some outstanding issues on the bilateral agenda between Azerbaijan and Iran.
