On 4 August, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a tête-à-tête meeting, followed by expanded talks with the participation of the delegations, with Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis, who is on an official visit to our country.
The Ministers discussed the Azerbaijan-Switzerland bilateral agenda, the priorities of Switzerland's OSCE Chairmanship, the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan-OSCE cooperation, as well as the situation in the post-conflict period and the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process.
It was noted that the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Switzerland in 2027 creates an important opportunity to take stock of the partnership that has taken shape.
The sides emphasized the importance of continuing high-level contacts and regular political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions focused on issues of expanding economic cooperation, including the activities of the Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
It was emphasized that the energy sector is one of the main pillars of bilateral economic relations. In this context, the operations of SOCAR in Switzerland were noted as an important example of mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Ministers also emphasized the importance of developing cooperation in the fields of culture, education and science, with a view to further strengthening people-to-people ties.
At the meeting, attention was paid to the priorities set by Switzerland in its capacity as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. The Azerbaijani side welcomed the importance attached by the Chairmanship to the fields of science and diplomacy, innovative technologies, water resources management, energy security and digital security, emphasizing the importance of these areas in addressing contemporary challenges.
Particular emphasis was also placed on the existing problem of mines in our country, and the contribution that the OSCE, and its member states in particular, could make to Azerbaijan in the field of demining was discussed.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was held on the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed his counterpart on the current stage of the peace process, the de facto peace established between the two countries, and the confidence-building measures being implemented.
The meeting also featured discussions on a number of other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a press conference was held, at which the Ministers made statements and answered questions from media representatives.
