On 7 July, a telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore Vivian Balakrishnan.
During the phone call, an exchange of views was held on the current state and prospects for the development of existing bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Singapore, as well as on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The Ministers noted the intensification of political dialogue, mutual visits, and the existing potential for expanding cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, digital transformation, innovation, transport and logistics, education, and human capital development, as well as the importance of the steps being taken towards developing the bilateral treaty and legal framework.
The importance of cooperation on multilateral platforms, including within the framework of the UN and other international organizations, was emphasized, and an exchange of views was held on candidatures to the elected bodies of international organizations.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided information on the decision by the Azerbaijani side to introduce a visa-free regime for citizens of Singapore, effective from 1 August, expressing his confidence that this step would make an important contribution to expanding people-to-people contacts, developing business ties and tourism, as well as further deepening bilateral relations.
Regional security issues were also discussed during the phone call. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed the other side on the work being carried out towards ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the region in the post-conflict period.
In addition, attention was drawn to the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works being carried out in Azerbaijan's liberated territories, and to the importance of the opening of transport and communication lines in the region in terms of economic integration and strengthening mutual trust.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan's relations with the Central Asian countries have risen to a strategic level in recent years, and that, in this regard, cooperation within the C6 format, as well as the Caspian Sea, the Middle Corridor and other regional connectivity projects, are making an important contribution to promoting sustainable economic integration in the Eurasian space.
During the phone call, the sides also exchanged views on other regional issues of mutual interest.
