On 25 June, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov met with the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Magdalena Grono.
At the meeting, a broad exchange of views was held on the current state and prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU), as well as on issues on the regional agenda.
The sides emphasized that the existing political dialogue, high-level mutual visits and intensive contacts are making an important contribution to the development of Azerbaijan-EU relations. In this regard, the significance of the visit paid to Azerbaijan this year by President of the European Council António Costa was noted in terms of deepening mutual understanding and advancing the cooperation agenda.
The current state of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in the political, economic, energy, transport-communication and other fields, as well as the agreements reached, were reviewed.
Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov briefed the other side on the latest developments regarding the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and the peace agenda. The importance of making use of the existing opportunities to finalize the peace process, of the timely fulfilment of obligations, and of strengthening mutual trust was noted.
The sides emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including dialogue and consultations on issues of mutual interest between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
The meeting also featured an exchange of views on other topical issues on the regional and international agenda.
