No:273/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Chung Eui-hae

On 17 June, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received the delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Chung Eui-hae, who is on a visit to our country.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was conducted on the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan-Korea relations, political dialogue, economy, trade, investments, digital development, education, transport, energy security and other issues of mutual interest.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted with satisfaction the dynamics of development of relations between our countries. He emphasized that the large-scale infrastructure projects implemented by Azerbaijan, as well as the role played by our country in key regional transport and logistics routes connecting Europe and Asia, create new opportunities for international cooperation. In this context, information was provided about the importance of the Middle Corridor and the work carried out towards expanding transit and connectivity opportunities.

 

The sides also discussed issues of cooperation on multilateral platforms. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), to be held this year within the framework of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, would contribute to joint efforts aimed at strengthening dialogue and trust.

 

The sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in the fields of digital transformation, innovation and high technologies, and noted the importance of exchange of experience and joint projects in these areas. Prospects for cooperation in the field of education, academic exchange programmes and initiatives aimed at the development of human capital were reviewed. It was stated that the activities of the Baku State Vocational Education Center for Industry and Innovation, established on the basis of Korean education standards, and dual degree education programmes between universities are among the important areas of growing cooperation between our countries.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views was conducted on issues of cooperation in the field of energy, particularly energy security, the development of renewable energy sources and projects implemented towards green transition.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided information about the recent decision of our country to apply a visa exemption regime for holders of all types of passports of the Republic of Korea. The sides emphasized that such a step will make an important contribution to the expansion of cooperation in tourism and other fields, as well as to increasing contacts between our peoples.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information about the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the work carried out towards advancing the peace agenda, as well as the current situation regarding ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region.

 

In addition, the sides noted the importance of the historic summit held in Washington in terms of promoting regional cooperation and emphasized that the outcomes achieved within the framework of the summit created new opportunities.

 

At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.

 

On the same day, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Korea was held. The delegations were headed by Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov on the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-hae on the Korean side.
