On 17 June, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received Member of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress Abraham Hamadeh, who is on a visit to our country.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was conducted on the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan-U.S. bilateral relations, regional and international security issues, energy security, transport and communication links, as well as the current situation in the South Caucasus in the post-conflict period.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, emphasizing the importance of the Summit held in Washington in August of last year in bilateral and regional relations, noted that the historic agreements reached within the framework of the Summit serve to elevate relations between the two countries to a qualitatively new stage. It was stated that the Strategic Partnership Charter signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States of America creates an important basis for further expanding cooperation in such areas as political dialogue, economic cooperation, energy security and security.

In addition, it was noted that the Azerbaijan-U.S. Economic Cooperation Dialogue was held for the first time, and that 10 cooperation documents covering trade, investment, energy, transport, digital development and other areas were signed.

At the meeting, the importance of implementing the TRIPP project, which will serve to strengthen transport and communication links in the region and create unhindered connectivity between the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, was emphasized.

During the meeting, while discussing the future development prospects of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations, the importance of removing restrictions in bilateral cooperation was emphasized. In this context, it was noted that the complete repeal of the Section 907 amendment, which restricts U.S. government assistance to Azerbaijan, would be in line with the spirit of the strategic partnership between the two countries and would contribute to further expanding cooperation in the fields of security, energy, transport, economy and regional stability. It was stated that the said amendment, by its nature, reflects an outdated approach and does not correspond to the current geopolitical realities, as well as the level of Azerbaijan-U.S. partnership.

The Minister, speaking about Azerbaijan’s contributions over many years to the energy security of Europe and a wider geography, provided information about the projects implemented by our country in the field of green energy, alongside traditional energy resources. It was emphasized that there are broad opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States in this area.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of Azerbaijan’s relations with Central Asian countries and the admission of our country as a full member of the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian States, it was noted that there are broad opportunities for cooperation in the C6 format.

During the conversation, the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process was also discussed. The Minister provided the other side with detailed information about the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and the restoration and reconstruction works carried out in our liberated territories.

At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
