No:260/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with members of the Japan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship League

On 10 June, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with members of the Japan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship League within the framework of his official visit to Tokyo.
During the meeting, an extensive exchange of views was conducted on the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan-Japan relations. In this context, the importance of the mechanisms of political consultations and the commission on economic cooperation, mutual visits and contacts at various levels between the two countries in terms of further strengthening bilateral relations was noted.
It was emphasized that Japan was among the first countries to recognize the independence of our country, as well as that the first official visit of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Japan in 1998 was an important milestone in the development of Azerbaijan-Japan relations and gave strong impetus to the expansion of political and economic cooperation.
Touching upon the role of Azerbaijan-Japan interparliamentary cooperation, the importance of the Azerbaijan-Japan Interparliamentary Working Group operating in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Japan-Azerbaijan Friendship League existing in the Parliament of Japan in this regard was emphasized.
Within the framework of the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on cooperation relations in political, economic, humanitarian, traditional and renewable energy, tourism, education and other fields.
It was recalled that ITOCHU and INPEX, leading Japanese companies, are among the reliable partners of our country, playing an important role in Azerbaijan’s energy sector, particularly in the implementation of oil and gas projects.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information about the history of past occupation and conflict, the situation in the post-conflict period, the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process and the steps taken by our country, the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out in the liberated territories, as well as purposeful measures taken towards combating the mine threat.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other regional and international issues of mutual interest, as well as the situation in the Middle East.
