No:231/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China

On 26 May, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, within the framework of his working visit to New York.
During the meeting, gratitude was expressed to the Chinese side for organizing the open debate of the UN Security Council on “Maintenance of international peace and security: respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system,” and it was emphasized that this initiative is of particular importance against the backdrop of current global challenges.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and China and noted that, in recent years, high-level political dialogue and partnership based on mutual trust have made an important contribution to relations entering a new stage. In this framework, it was stated that the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership relations between the two countries in 2025 played an important role in further strengthening relations.
It was highlighted that the agreements reached and documents signed within the framework of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to China in 2025 created exceptional opportunities for expanding cooperation in various areas. At the same time, it was emphasized that the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and China will be marked in 2027, and it was noted that this anniversary will give impetus to the further development of bilateral relations.
During the meeting, the existing potential for expanding cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, transport and logistics, energy security, green energy, industry, digital innovations, agriculture, science, education and humanitarian affairs was highly appreciated. The contribution of the operation of production enterprises with Chinese investment in our country to economic cooperation was emphasized. The strategic importance of joint projects implemented within the framework of the development of the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was noted. It was highlighted that the removal of visa requirements between our countries has made a positive contribution to increasing people-to-people contacts.
The importance of continuing mutual support and cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations was noted. An exchange of views was conducted on the prospects of joint activity on multilateral platforms such as the UN, CICA, the Non-Aligned Movement and others.
Satisfaction was expressed with the active participation of the Chinese delegation in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum held in Azerbaijan in May of the current year, and it was stated that this participation made an important contribution to the development of multilateral cooperation.
Emphasizing the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations, it was noted that expanding exchange programs in the fields of education, culture, tourism and youth plays a special role in the development of long-term partnership.
In addition, regional security issues were reviewed. Gratitude was expressed to our country for the support provided for the evacuation of Chinese citizens from Iran.
During the meeting, other regional and international issues of mutual interest were discussed.
