No:229/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN

On 26 May, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN, within the framework of his participation in the open debate of the UN Security Council on “Maintenance of international peace and security: respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system.”
During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN, as well as the current situation in the region, were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan maintains useful cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies. In particular, the successful holding of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum, organized in our country on 17–22 May of the current year, was noted with satisfaction.
In addition, our country’s strategic relations with Central Asia and its role in the fields of transport and communications were emphasized.
Detailed information was provided to the other side on the current situation and realities in the region in the post-conflict period, restoration and reconstruction works aimed at ensuring the dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their homes, the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, confidence-building measures, as well as the mine threat in the region.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
