No:215/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Mohieldin Salem Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sudan

On 9 May, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Mohieldin Salem Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sudan, who is on a visit to our country.

 

During the meeting, current issues on the political, economic, humanitarian and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Sudan were discussed. It was noted with satisfaction that the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries will be marked next year.

 

The ministers noted that the intensification of political dialogue, mutual visits and political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs make an important contribution to the development of cooperation. In this context, the importance of mutual support and cooperation within the framework of international organizations, particularly the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement, was emphasized.

 

During the meeting, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy security, green energy, agriculture, investment, education and humanitarian affairs were reviewed. The Sudanese side expressed interest in Azerbaijan’s experience in the fields of public administration, digital development, infrastructure building and post-conflict recovery. Gratitude was expressed for the allocation of educational scholarships by Azerbaijan to Sudanese students. In addition, the humanitarian assistance provided by Azerbaijan in connection with the floods in Sudan and the COVID-19 pandemic was recalled with satisfaction.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information on the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out by our country in the post-conflict period, measures taken to combat the mine threat, as well as the importance of regional transport and communication projects.

 

The sides also conducted an exchange of views on issues and challenges on the regional and international security agenda.

 

At the meeting, other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest were also discussed.

 

Within the framework of the visit, the ministers signed an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Sudan on mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports.
