No:077/23, Press release on the telephone conversation of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried

On 15 February 2023, the next telephone conversation was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried.
The sides held discussions on the current situation in the region and prospects for negotiations on the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that, in accordance with the Trilateral Statement, Azerbaijan guarantees only the security of citizens, vehicles and cargo on the Lachin road, but that Armenia abuses the Lachin road for illegal economic activities, rotations of Armenian servicemen and the transportation of mines. He noted that the legitimate demands of the protesters on the Lachin road have still not been fulfilled. He emphasized that claims about the alleged emergence of a “tense humanitarian” situation in the region have no basis.
The Minister also pointed out that Armenia resorts to manipulations regarding the negotiation process on the peace agreement.
During the telephone conversation, the sides also conducted an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
