On 6 February 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister of State for Europe of Great Britain Leo Docherty held a telephone conversation.

During the telephone conversation, the sides discussed current issues on the Azerbaijan-Great Britain bilateral agenda, the latest situation in the region, and prospects for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Expressing satisfaction with bilateral relations between our countries, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that official contacts and visits are important. The Minister informed the other side about the latest situation around the Lachin road. It was highlighted that the protests held against illegal economic activity and the abuse of the Lachin road are the legitimate right of the Azerbaijani people, that claims regarding blockade and the humanitarian situation have no basis, that humanitarian cargo is being transported, and that nearly 2,000 vehicles have used the road to date.

The other side was informed about Armenia’s non-compliance with its obligations, as well as the obstacles it has created to the normalization process in the post-conflict period and its series of provocations, and its boycott of the latest Moscow meeting on the peace agreement. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan, as a state advancing the peace agenda and carrying out rereconstruction works in the region, is interested in the normalization process.

For his part, Minister of State Leo Docherty strongly condemned the armed attack committed against Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Iran and extended his condolences. He stated that it is important to overcome the difficulties hindering peace in the region and to restore negotiations.

Afterwards, the sides conducted an exchange of views on bilateral and multilateral issues.
