No:453/23, Commentary on the allegations voiced by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan during his speech at the government meeting

31 August 2023 14:13

The fact that Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who once again accused Azerbaijan of carrying out “genocide” during his speech at the government meeting on 31 August, cheapens this word to such an extent without any basis, is a manifestation of Armenia’s irresponsible manipulation activities.

Instead of protesting the provocative steps of some representatives of the Armenians, who oppose the proposal to intensify movement on the Lachin road in parallel with the use of the Aghdam-Khankendi road for the delivery of cargo to Armenian residents if needed, we would like to remind the Prime Minister, who accuses Azerbaijan of starving Armenian residents, that currently, trucks sent by the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society in the direction of Aghdam-Khankendi are waiting in the area to pass to Khankendi. If the Armenian side truly needed the cargo being transported, they would not obstruct the passage of this cargo to the area by demanding that the road be blocked by the peacekeeping contingent. The approach of the Armenian residents has once again shown that the allegations of Armenia and some representatives of the Armenian residents regarding the “humanitarian situation” are nothing other than political manipulation.

As for the allegation regarding the unilateral opening of the Lachin road and plans to expel Armenian residents, we would like to state that, at present, conditions are being created for the passage of Armenian residents through the Lachin border checkpoint in both directions, and accusing the Azerbaijani side of carrying out a policy of ethnic cleansing in the region is absurd.

It seems that the Armenian side, which for nearly 30 years carried out genocide, massacres and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis not only from the territories of Azerbaijan it occupied, but even against Azerbaijanis who lived on the territory of present-day Armenia until the late 1980s, thinks that every state applies the same approach and has the same understanding.

It would be better for the Prime Minister of Armenia, who supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in word, to also support the policy of reintegration of residents of Armenian origin living in the Garabagh region within the framework of Azerbaijani legislation and to refrain from interference against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

We hope that the Armenian side will correctly assess the realities formed in the region in the post-conflict period and demonstrate a constructive position in negotiations with Azerbaijan for the establishment of peace.
